How Idaho Paycheck Taxes Work: 2026 Guide
Updated for 2026. Idaho taxes income at a flat 5.3%, after a small amount taxed at 0%. Idaho starts from your federal taxable income, so it uses the same standard deduction as the IRS. In February 2026 Idaho also adopted the new federal deductions for tips, overtime and seniors, back to the 2025 tax year (HB 559). The state's $205 child tax credit ended after 2025. There is no local income tax, and the minimum wage is the federal $7.25. Every figure on this page comes from the Idaho State Tax Commission, the IRS or SSA.

Idaho income tax rate for 2026
Idaho's rate is a flat 5.3% for 2025 and 2026, after HB 40 cut it from 5.695% in 2025 (BANDER Wealth Management summary). A small slice of taxable income is taxed at 0%:
| Filing status | 0% on the first (2025) | 0% on the first (2026, estimated) | Rate above that |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single, married filing separately | $4,811 | $4,940 | 5.3% |
| Married filing jointly, head of household | $9,622 | $9,880 | 5.3% |
The 0% amount rises with inflation each year; the 2026 figure is our estimate until the Tax Commission publishes its 2026 tables. The Tax Commission confirmed in August 2026 that the 5.3% rate is unchanged for 2026 (EY Tax News).
Idaho follows the federal standard deduction
Idaho starts from your federal taxable income, so the federal standard deduction ($16,100 single, $24,150 head of household, $32,200 joint for 2026) and federal itemized deductions carry over. A single filer earning $100,000 has $83,900 of Idaho taxable income. The tax is 5.3% of the $78,960 above the 0% amount, or $4,185, about 4.2% of gross pay. Traditional 401(k) contributions, health premiums, HSA and FSA contributions lower your Idaho tax too.
Tips, overtime and the senior deduction in Idaho
On February 10, 2026, Governor Little signed HB 559, which adopts nearly all of the federal tax changes from July 2025, retroactive to January 1, 2025 (Idaho Capital Sun). Because Idaho starts from federal taxable income, the federal deductions also lower Idaho tax:
- Tips: qualified tips of up to $25,000 a year.
- Overtime: the extra half of time-and-a-half pay, up to $12,500 ($25,000 for joint filers).
- Seniors: an extra $6,000 for each person 65 or older, phased out at higher incomes.
- Car loan interest: up to $10,000 on a new U.S.-assembled car (not included in the calculator).
The deductions phase out above $150,000 of income ($300,000 joint) and run through 2028. A single worker with $40,000 in wages and $15,000 in tips pays only $1,005 in Idaho tax and takes home about $47,168 a year.
Federal taxes on every Idaho paycheck
Federal income tax depends on your income, filing status and the choices on your W-4. For 2026 the brackets run from 10% to 37% (IRS).
- Social Security: 6.2% of wages up to $184,500 in 2026, a maximum of $11,439 (SSA).
- Medicare: 1.45% of all wages. Employers also withhold an extra 0.9% on wages above $200,000 in a year.

For hourly pay, multiply your rate by your weekly hours and by 52. A full-time year is 2,080 hours. Idaho's minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, the same as the federal minimum (U.S. Department of Labor). A single full-time worker on $7.25 earns $15,080, owes no Idaho income tax and takes home about $13,926 a year.
When you leave a job, Idaho employers must pay your final wages by the next regular payday or within 10 days (not counting weekends and holidays), whichever comes first, or within 48 hours if you ask in writing.
Why your actual paycheck may differ from this estimate
- This calculator estimates your tax for the full year. Employers withhold using the Idaho withholding tables and your ID W-4, so each check can be a little higher or lower. Idaho revised its tables in July 2026 after the child tax credit ended.
- The grocery credit, which refunds part of the sales tax on food, and the $10 permanent building fund tax are settled on your return.
- Payroll systems may not apply the tips and overtime deductions to withholding, so tipped and overtime workers may get a larger refund.
- Social Security stops once your wages pass $184,500, so late-year paychecks of high earners are larger.
How to increase your take-home pay in Idaho
- Check your withholding with the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator and update your W-4 and Idaho ID W-4 after a raise, a new job or a change in your family.
- Use pre-tax benefits such as a 401(k), HSA, FSA and commuter benefits. Each dollar saves federal tax and 5.3% Idaho tax.
- If you earn tips or overtime, keep records: the deductions now lower both your federal and Idaho tax.
How this calculator works
The calculator estimates your full-year tax and divides it by your pay periods. It uses the 2026 federal brackets and standard deduction (Rev. Proc. 2025-32, including the 2025 tax law changes), Idaho's 5.3% rate on federal taxable income above the 0% amount, the tips, overtime and senior deductions under HB 559, the 2025 Idaho child tax credit and the 2026 Social Security wage base. For joint filers, enter combined household wages. Results are estimates, not tax advice.
